Quivira Golf Club is Jack Nicklaus’ sixth Los Cabos layout, and his second local masterpiece. Set along breathtaking cliffs on the Pacific Coast of Cabo San Lucas, Quivira features ocean views on all 18 holes. Nicklaus himself called it one of the most spectacular courses in the world. GOLF Magazine agreed, naming it the best new international course in 2015. So did Golf Digest, which has currently ranked it among the world’s 100 best (U.S. excluded).
Nicklaus has already committed to a second course at Quivira, with routing now underway … meaning this is now one of hottest developments in Los Cabos real estate. An as yet unfinished beachfront property at the new Residences at The St. Regis, for example, recently sold for $15.5 million. The boutique St. Regis joins the gated new course-adjacent Old Lighthouse Club among the several outstanding golf communities at Quivira, which also include Montecristo Estates, Alvar, Coronado, Copala, Mavila, and Novaispania … each with its own distinctive amenities and privileges. Two Pueblo Bonito resorts and their acclaimed onsite dining options (including a Harrod’s style food hall) are also conveniently close.
Now, if you’re familiar with Los Cabos, you might wonder why these developments need any selling points at all beyond the region’s breathtaking natural beauty, from rugged mountains and dramatic desert landscapes to mile upon mile of gorgeous beach-framed coastline fronting on either the Pacific Ocean or Sea of Cortés.
The short answer is lifestyle. Sportfishing was the original lifestyle attraction in cape cities Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo, but this activity appeals primarily to men. The introduction of golf to the region brought a traditional country club style activity long enjoyed by both men and women. And unlike golf’s traditional country club partner, tennis, the region’s golf layouts boast a stunning array of outdoor panoramas and vistas.
But, of course, there’s more to the story than simply recreation and lifestyle…
Davis Love III’s links style Dunes Course at Diamante was a revelation when it opened in 2009, and it has been a staple of world’s 100 best courses lists ever since (it was ranked #36 in the world by GOLF Magazine in 2017). As if that weren’t enough to put this gorgeous Pacific Coast development on the map, The Dunes was followed by Tiger Woods’ first ever completed design at El Cardonal in 2014. Tiger returned two years later to design a unique 12-hole Oasis Short Course, adding to the luster of Diamante’s incredible golf collection.
Diamante is also home to several resorts, including the new Nobu Los Cabos, but it’s the private golf courses and six distinct golf communities that makes this “Diamond” such a gem when it comes to real estate in Los Cabos; from golf villas and penthouse suites built around the Dunes Course, to hillside and beachfront estates, ocean club residences, and much, much more.
From the real estate perspective, these golf courses also serve two other vitally important purposes. Firstly, they help engender a sense of community among people who have bought a primary or secondary home in a foreign country. Secondly, and more importantly from an investment standpoint, ocean views and spectacular world-class golf courses are perennially appealing selling points that promise a healthy return on investment should today’s home buyers decide at some point in the indeterminate future that they wish to sell.
And to be clear, Los Cabos’ collection of golf courses is indeed spectacular. Three of the region’s 18 operating courses (more are in development) are currently ranked by Golf Digest among the world’s 100 best, and many more are worthy of that honor. Since Jack Nicklaus designed his first courses at Palmilla and Cabo del Sol in the early 90s, a who’s who of major champions turned course architects and designers have contributed to the region’s burgeoning reputation as a world-class golf destination, from Tiger Woods and Greg Norman to Tom Weiskopf, Fred Couples, and Davis Love III.
The most important thing to know about the “Los Cabos real estate” market is that inventory is at an all-time high. New construction is taking place across the southern rim of Los Cabos, from the Pacific Coast of Cabo San Lucas to San José del Cabo and the East Cape beyond, with prices on homes that range from as low as $250,000 to as high as $30 million dollars. Demand, it should be noted, is also at an all-time high.

If you’ve never heard of Querencia or its incredible Tom Fazio designed golf course, that’s just the way the owners and members want it. This ultra-private community is very luxurious, and very, very exclusive. Golf Digest knew enough about Fazio’s magnificent design – which winds elegantly through picturesque desert and mountain foothills – to declare it one of the world’s 100 best (U.S. excluded). So the secret is finally out about the golf course … and, judging by the sales figures, about Querencia’s signature collection of condos, homes, villas, and estates as well. It doesn’t hurt that Fazio returned to improve several holes after Querencia acquired more real estate, or that $60 million in enhancements were recently given to the spectacular 58,000 square foot clubhouse and other members-only amenities. Like Cabo del Sol, Querencia is located along what is known as the Tourist Corridor, placing it conveniently close to shopping and dining in both Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo.
Jack Nicklaus’ Ocean Course at Cabo del Sol has been the gold standard in Los Cabos for decades. The “Golden Bear” himself called the original two finishing holes as good as any in golf, and judged the overall layout “the best golf property I’ve ever seen.” That was in 1992, and things are looking even better 30 years in. The Ocean Course is now the private Cove Club, and the course saw a redesign of some ocean holes to accommodate new real estate, including an exciting new Four Seasons Los Cabos development. The ultra-luxe hotel brand has partnered with developers to offer an array of stunning real estate options, from villas and estates to private residences in an exclusive beachfront village.
Tom Weiskopf’s acclaimed Desert Course, meanwhile, is also currently undergoing a $15 million dollar renovation, and will reopen as the private members only Cabo del Sol Golf Club in 2024.
Greg Norman designed the one-of-a-kind layout at Rancho San Lucas Golf Club, which features British Islesstyle bunkering and an unforgettable 17th-hole island green reminiscent of TPC Sawgrass. Except this one has lake and ocean views. The 7,210-yard loop and its luxe mid-course comfort food stations are, of course, the centerpiece of the brilliant new 834-acre Pacific Coast community managed by Cabo San Lucas’ only homegrown resort and residences company, Solmar.
